A 16-year-old from Fairview Park was arrested following an incident in which he allegedly brandished a loaded firearm at other juveniles, as reported by WKYC. The encounter took place at Dick's Sporting Goods in Westlake's Crocker Park on the evening of last Friday. Westlake Police were summoned to the location after the suspect, described as wearing a camouflage hoodie, allegedly pointed a gun at individuals.
Upon arrival, officers located the suspect outside the store, who complied with the police directives and was apprehended without further incident. The officers searched and found the suspect in possession of a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun that was loaded with a round in the chamber and nine additional rounds in the magazine, as per the information provided by FOX8. The teen had also admitted to pointing the weapon at two individuals.
The incident sparked concerns, especially since authorities later discovered that the teenager not only had outstanding warrants for burglary and theft through the juvenile court system but was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon, aggravated menacing, and weapons under disability due to his active warrants, according to the Cleveland19 News report.
In a statement obtained by WKYC, a Crocker Park spokesperson expressed gratitude to "the Westlake police for their swift response and professionalism." Following the arrest, the juvenile was released into the custody of a parent after the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center declined to admit him. No injuries were reported related to the incident, a reality that perhaps speaks to the swiftness with which the Westlake police neutralized what could have escalated into a more violent confrontation.
