A 16-year-old male is in stable condition following a shooting that took place in the early hours of the morning in downtown St. Louis. The incident occurred at roughly 1:45 a.m. in the 400 block of South 10th Street, as detailed in a report by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The young victim, initially providing false identification to the authorities, was met by District 4 officers at a hospital where he was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses, who found themselves amidst a commotion at a nearby bar before escaping to a parking garage, reported to officials that the shots were fired amongst a scene of sudden chaos. They scrambled to their car after realizing the teenager had been shot, and promptly transported him to seek medical attention. A firearm was later found by officers in the vehicle.
Further investigation at the parking garage led to the discovery of an additional witness who recounted the altercation. This individual shared with police that two males were engaged in a fight, with each brandishing a gun, before both began to shoot at one another. The official statement released by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department does not currently attribute the recovered weapon directly to the incident.
