The Morgan Hill Police Department has arrested a 59-year-old suspect, identified as Mark Allen, in connection with a hate crime that allegedly took place on March 7 at the Community and Cultural Center, targeting a member of the Muslim community. According to a social media post by the Morgan Hill Police Department, the department acted promptly to investigate the incident, gathering statements from witnesses and identifying the suspect involved.
The case was subsequently reviewed by the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, which led to a charge for Mark Allen under Penal Code 422.6(a), a charge that is specific to hate crimes; following the issuance of a warrant, Allen self-surrendered at the Morgan Hill Police Department.
The Morgan Hill Police emphasized their commitment to handling "all acts of violence and bias-related incidents extremely seriously."
