The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is currently investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 62-year-old man on the city's near southwest side. As reported by FOX59, the incident occurred Thursday afternoon, and upon arrival at the 2000 block of W. Morris Street, officers found Forrest Tab Grant suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite being rushed to an area hospital, criptical was the condition in which the victim was reported initially. However, Grant was pronounced dead shortly after being transported. The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Forrest Tab Grant, with WTHR confirming the time of the call to officers at around 1:30 p.m. yesterday.
According to the IMPD, which was detailed in an article from WRTV, detectives have detained a person found near the scene. The exact nature of this individual’s involvement remains undetermined as the investigation is ongoing. Preliminary information suggests that this was not a random act of violence – the victim and the shooter were reportedly acquainted.
While the identity of the detained person has not been disclosed, the community has been assured by IMPD that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, posing no active threat to the surrounding area. In the search of additional evidence, detectives continue canvassing the scene, encourage anyone with pertinent information to come forward and reach out to IMPD or contact CrimeStoppers at 317-262-TIPS, in a statement obtained by FOX59.
