An 86-year-old man driving a golf cart lost his life in a collision with a dump truck on U.S. 60 near Wittmann yesterday, authorities reported. The crash, which occurred just after 6 a.m. in the westbound lanes near milepost 132, involved Dale Srigley of Sun City West, who was pronounced dead at the scene. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Srigley was reported missing from his home in the morning before the incident took place.
Investigators at the Arizona Department of Public Safety have so far not determined the crash's cause, as reported by the same outlet. The incident briefly blocked the right lane as emergency crews attended the scene. Driving the golf cart, Dale Srigley was found dead after the dump truck hit him. No other vehicles appear to have been involved, and no additional injuries were reported in the crash.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office had earlier recorded a missing person's report for Srigley approximately two hours before the incident, according to ABC 15. The details surrounding Srigley's departure from his residence and how he came to be on the freeway in a golf cart remain unclear.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety has not yet provided additional information about the crash's circumstances. DPS officials and the MCSO are working together to gather a complete understanding of the incident.
