Anderson County is marking America's 250th anniversary with a tribute to the past. Terry Frank, the mayor of Anderson County, is introducing the 'Two Lights for Tomorrow' initiative, scheduled for April 18. On this day, residents and businesses are encouraged to display two exterior lights from dusk until dawn the following day, in recognition of Paul Revere's historic ride and the events surrounding the nation's founding.
Educational engagement is also part of the initiative. Local students and senior citizens are invited to participate in projects focused on the significant date of April 18, 1775. According to the Anderson County, activities include creating interactive timelines, building dioramas with LED lights, writing short essays on community service, and coloring images of the midnight ride. These projects are designed to enhance historical understanding and promote unity across generations.
Individuals interested in participating in the creative challenge should submit their entries to the Anderson County Mayor's Office by April 17. The initiative includes plans to display the projects in the courthouse for public viewing. If the response is substantial, county Archivist Zach Foster and Assistant Michele Disney will serve as judges, evaluating the creativity and storytelling in the submissions.
As part of the community initiative, the Anderson County Mayor will recognize the creators of the most original and thought-provoking pieces with a special prize. According to the Anderson County Government, the events of 1775 were significant in shaping a national identity, which is now acknowledged through the community’s celebration and remembrance.
