Last Saturday morning, the City of Brentwood Police Department's routine traffic stop escalated into an arrest for DUI and illegal firearm possession. An officer patrolling near Sand Creek Road and Minnesota Avenue around 2 AM noticed a vehicle speeding and drifting into the bike lane, according to the City of Brentwood Police Department.
The vehicle was subsequently stopped, and the driver, identified as 52-year-old Christian Mathews from Antioch, was found to exhibit signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested after being pulled over by the Brentwood officer, who had finished up with another traffic stop. During the subsequent investigation, it was discovered that Mathews, a convicted felon, had a loaded firearm in the car, leading to additional charges.
Mathews has been booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on counts of DUI, felon in possession of a firearm, and other charges.
