Arkansas State Police are conducting an investigation following the discovery of a body identified as Selvin Adonis Gutierrez Martinez, a 26-year-old Honduran national who had previously been reported missing. Martinez's body was found in the Interstate 40 median near West Memphis, sparking suspicions of a possible hit-and-run incident, according to Action News 5.
The body was located on I-40 East near the interchange with I-55, and the call came in around 7:30 p.m. Sunday as per reports from the ASP Criminal Investigation Division. The West Memphis Police Department received a missing person report for Martinez on April 3, and it was only a matter of days before this tragic discovery brought closure to his unknown whereabouts, albeit in the most unfortunate form. FOX13 Memphis notes that the body has since been taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine exactly how Martinez met his end.
Speculation surrounds the circumstances of Martinez's death, with Arkansas State Police considering the possibility that the man was struck by a vehicle, which would account for his fatal injuries and his presence in the median area, as stated in an update by Local Memphis. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to release further details regarding potential suspects or witness accounts.
