Arlington's Ben Thanh Plaza is preparing for a series of property improvements aimed at boosting tourism and solidifying its position as a community hub. In a three-way handshake with HKT Management, Arlington Economic Development Corporation, and the City itself, the shopping center plans to revamp its current look into something more vibrant and functional. The center spans a robust 13.1-acre space and features approximately 50 storefronts, alongside a diverse range of dining options.

Updates that have been greenlit include resurfacing parking lots, introducing an outdoor plaza designated for food trucks and local events, and enhancements in landscaping efforts. The buildings in Ben Thanh Plaza will also get a facelift, both inside and out. Not stopping there, HKT Management announced the addition of a fresh commercial building, measuring 15,000 square feet, to the complex.

Gus Garcia, Director of Economic Development for Arlington, highlighted the significance of these changes. "This project stands as a testament to the City’s investment in the International Corridor — a place that reflects the vibrant spirit and diversity of our community. By reimagining spaces that inspire exploration, culture and connection, we are not just revitalizing infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for a dynamic destination where residents and visitors can gather," Garcia elucidated, in a statement detailed by the City of Arlington's official news release.

In terms of financing, this agreement stipulates that HKT Management will invest a minimum of $3,545,000 in capital improvements, while the Arlington EDC will cover up to $1,645,000 of the costs associated with constructing the infrastructure.

An expected timeline is in place; the owner must implement all improvements within 21 months of the agreement’s enactment and maintain the property’s aesthetic and cleanliness standards throughout the agreement's term.
