Heads up, Atlanta drivers: There's a temporary road closure on Mason Turner Road NW that's going to make your commute a little more complicated. According to a recent advisory by the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT), this segment will be closed until Friday, at the stroke of 12:00 a.m. The reason is construction activities that are pivotal to the development of the Atlanta Beltline Northwest Trail Segment 4 project.
Now, here's what you need to know to successfully navigate around this area. The detours are set up like a game of hopscotch – with a little patience, you'll make it to your destination. If you're traveling eastbound on Joseph E. Boone Blvd NW, you're going to want to bypass Mayson Turner Rd NW to Flowers Pl NW, then take a right onto Flowers Pl NW to Mayson Turner Rd NW and then another right back onto Mayson Turner Rd NW. Westbound, it's a left onto Troy St NW to Mobile St NW, then another left onto Mobile St NW to Stafford St NW. This detour dance will help you avoid getting stuck in closure chaos.
For those of you who rely on sidewalks, don't sweat it. The sidewalks along the south side of Mason Turner Rd NW will remain accessible during the closure. That means pedestrians and cyclists should be able to proceed as usual. If you do find yourself scratching your head over the detours, or need more info, you can shoot an email to the ATLDOT at [email protected].
And remember, as with any roadwork, it's always a smart play to allow extra time for your travels. These slight detours are here to ultimately provide easier passage in the future, once the Beltline project comes to fruition. So roll with the detours, keep an eye out for signs, and try to not let the construction cramp your commute too much. Before you know it, we'll be back to our regularly scheduled roadways.
