The Avondale Police Department is shifting gears on traffic safety, relocating its speed safety cameras to new watchpoints to curb speeding. Starting April 21, 2025, the eagle-eyed lenses will survey the northbound flow at 200 S. Avondale Blvd. and southbound traffic at 500 S. Avondale Blvd., according to an announcement posted on the Avondale city website.

Responding to persistent community concerns and patterns observed by law enforcement, the City of Avondale has launched a strategic speed enforcement camera initiative aimed at curbing dangerous driving habits. The newly installed cameras have taken their posts along key stretches of roadway—one positioned on the east side north of Jefferson Street, and another on the west side, south of Buchanan Street.

This effort, outlined in an official city release, reflects the Avondale Police Department’s belief that these "silent sentinels" will encourage drivers to obey posted speed limits. By enforcing traffic laws through automated technology, officials hope to foster a culture of safer driving and greater roadway awareness.

Motorists caught exceeding speed limits by these devices will receive Notices of Violation, with fines starting at $185. The penalties will increase depending on how far a driver surpasses the legal threshold, forming a graduated scale meant to correct rather than merely punish.
