The streets of Allston witnessed an unsettling incident this past Monday when Boston Police arrested a man after a tumultuous pursuit that began with a grim discovery. Officers assigned to District D-14 responded to a call at 82 Glenville Avenue where they found 77-year-old Peggy Yousuf deceased in her apartment, as stated in a Boston Police Department update. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Omar Riaz of Boston, allegedly attempted a carjacking before being apprehended by police near 50 Quint Avenue.
The chaos unfolded after Riaz reportedly shattered an apartment window to escape, according to CBS News Boston, leading to a chase where he was eventually subdued with a taser by officers on Park Vale Street. Wearing no shirt and armed with what seemed to be a machete, he had fled through yards, a sequence of events that Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin hinted might be domestic, although the police had yet to disclose the identities involved at the time.
Riaz, now facing charges of murder, armed carjacking, and resisting arrest, will have to account for his actions in court.
