The Boston Police Department brought a playful spirit to community engagement by joining the West Roxbury YMCA Healthy Kids Day. Their participation highlighted a commitment to building positive relationships with local families., according to the department's official website.
The event which aimed to inspire more dynamic lifestyles and building bonds between law enforcement and community members, featured Captain Michael Hegarty, as well as, officers from the District E-5 Community Service Office, the BPD Crime Scene Unit, and the Bomb Squad alongside local families at Billings Field.
The Healthy Kids Day hosted a range of activities, where young attendees had the opportunity to explore police gear and special vehicles, providing a tangible insight into the duties of Boston's officers. Particularly popular among the attendees was Copper the Comfort Dog, the BPD’s own mascot who seems to have a knack for bringing cheer. "We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with the community in such a fun and educational way," said a statement on the BPD website.
