In Coral Springs, the city's law enforcement leadership has taken a new shape with the swearing-in of Brad Mock as the Police Chief. The official Transfer of Command Ceremony, which took place last Friday, marks the continuation of a law enforcement journey that spans over two decades. Former Interim Police Chief Mock steps into the role previously held by Brad McKeone, who now serves as the Deputy City Manager for the city.
Mock, with a tenure exceeding 25 years, is set to lead a department that is responsible to quickly protect and serve about 135,000 residents. It's a task supported by the efforts of 225 uniformed officers and nearly 100 civilians. In a statement obtained by Coral Springs official news, Mock expressed his philosophy on public safety, emphasizing a collaborative approach. "I believe in a unified approach to public safety," he said. "It’s not just about our department; it’s about building relationships with our neighbors, schools, businesses, and other law enforcement agencies. Together, we can create a safer, more secure community."
Among the initiatives underway include the expanded use of advanced technological tools such as the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), which facilitates real-time monitoring and gains to improve response times. Mock's agenda is aimed at upholding a high standard of public safety with an underlying commitment to responsiveness, proactivity, and transparency.
In the realm of school safety, Mock has placed an extraordinary emphasis. He aims to strengthen the partnerships with local schools to ensure the safety of students and educational staff. City Manager Catherine Givens was quoted in the Coral Springs' announcement, highlighting Mock's deep connection to the community, "Chief Mock is deeply rooted in this community—he lives here, raises his children here, and coaches youth sports in our parks."
Retention and recruitment of competent officers and personnel remain critical to Mock's strategy for future-proofing the department. This goal aligns with his history of working collaboratively with major agencies, including the FBI, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
