Castro chocolate shop Kokak Chocolates (3901 18th Street) has closed after five years in the neighborhood.

After announcing the closure last week on social media, Kokak's last day was Sunday, April 22.

Kokak opened in 2020 in the former Cafe UB space.

"I'm closing our five-year-old retail chocolate shop to take care of my health," wrote owner Carol Gancia.

Fans of Kokak's chocolates can still place orders online.

Kokak Chocolates offered customers small-batch single-origin heirloom chocolates. Along with chocolates, the shop offered sandwiches, salads, baked goods, coffee, tea, espresso, and cold brew.

Gancia tells Hoodline that she still has two years remaining on her lease. "Hoping to find someone to take over," said Gancia.

"I will be thinking about every single one of you," added Gancia. "You had a multitude of choices but you picked us."

Kokak's closure comes after the Castro lost both of its ice cream shops within a week of each other. Castro Fountain closed after eight years, followed by Double Rainbow after five years.

Along with the retail space now being available, the entire building is on the market. According to an active listing, the approximately 1,339 square foot one-story building is being offered at $1.49 million.
