Residents who frequent Thompson Road and have ideas or concerns about its future will get to voice their opinions directly to the people drafting the plans. An open house with the design team for the Thompson Road Project is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. on April 14 at the Cedar Mill Library, located at 1080 NW Saltzman Road. As reported by Washington County's website, those interested can join the meeting to discuss the project, which promises to revamp the stretch between Marcotte and Saltzman roads.
The road plans include adding sidewalks and bike lanes to cater to pedestrians and cyclists, ensuring their safety and promoting more eco-friendly modes of transportation. Additionally, the project will see the addition of a center turn lane in critical spots, street lighting for better nighttime visibility, and installing storm drains and water-quality facilities to address the local drainage issues and enhance environmental safeguards. According to the details shared on Washington County's official website, the design phase of this endeavor will continue until the summer of 2026, giving ample time for public input and revisions based on community feedback.
For those unable to attend in person, requests for interpretation services are being accommodated and can be made by emailing [email protected]. As per the county's announcement, more information about the project can also be obtained via the same email or by calling 503-846-7822. This initiative isn't just a solo venture; it is part of a larger funding framework, being supported through the MSTIP Bonding Cost-sharing Program and the Bonny Slope West Transportation System Development Charge, which underlines the commitment of various stakeholders in the region's infrastructure.
