The Chandler Fire Department is teaming up with Chandler Aquatics and the Chandler Police Department to promote water safety. On May 3, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., they're kicking off National Water Safety Month and the #WaterYouDoing campaign with a Water Safety Walk. Volunteers are invited to spread water safety messages throughout local neighborhoods by hanging door hangers at each residence, each containing vital information aimed at preventing water-related accidents. On the morning of the walk, volunteers will congregate at Centennial Park, 2475 E. Markwood Drive, where the Chandler Fire Department will distribute maps and instructions. Volunteers should come equipped with comfy shoes, hats, and sunscreen. Their mission will span two to three hours and cover various Chandler neighborhoods. Children and teenagers will need an adult companion or to be in a supervised group to participate, according to the campaign's announcement.
Beyond the walk, Chandler is also hosting a Dive-In Movie at the Hamilton Aquatic Center, located at 3838 S. Arizona Ave., to combine education with family fun. The free event will feature the film “Under the Boardwalk,” a water safety expo, interactive activities, giveaways, prizes, and even a grand prize basket. The most intriguing draw for Chandler residents owning an in-ground pool might be the pool fence giveaway, with one winner announced at this event and another later in August. As an added incentive, Chandler locals can throw their name in the hat for a free pool fence with installation for their in-ground pools starting May 1 through August 1—two winners will be picked, with the first winner announced during the Water You Doing Day dive-in movie event to kick off the summer season, according to Battalion Chief Blas Minor of the Chandler Fire Department.
