Yesterday, a brazen armed robbery at a credit union in Concord sparked a series of violent events that led police across county lines and ended with an officer-involved shooting in San Jose. According to a social media post from the Concord Police Department, the incident began before 10 am when two suspects robbed the Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union.
Concord Police officers located the suspects' vehicle shortly thereafter, only to have the suspects evade law enforcement swiftly. This resulted in a pursuit which continued until their vehicle became disabled on southbound I-680 in Sunol. Undeterred, the suspects proceeded to carjack two vehicles at gunpoint, taking off once again in one of them.
The chase did not abate as Concord officers followed the carjacked vehicle to San Jose, where it eventually broke down. A Concord Police officer then engaged with one of the armed suspects in an officer-involved shooting. According to the same department post, the wounded suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment. In a coordinated effort, another suspect was apprehended by officers from the San Jose Police Department within a short time.
Currently, there are no suspects at large, and the situation is under control. Concord Police Department urges anyone with more information to contact Detective J. Riche of the Major Crimes Unit at (925) 603-5922 or use the tip line provided by the department at (925) 603-5836.
