A child and two adults were transported to the hospital following a serious collision in north Phoenix last Friday morning. The incident, which took place near the intersection of 48th Avenue and Happy Valley Road, involved two vehicles, one of which caught fire with a man trapped inside, reports AZFamily. According to Phoenix police, a 4-year-old girl sustained life-threatening injuries and was quickly taken to the hospital after the crash.
Responding to the scene at approximately 8:00 a.m., first responders found a vehicle ablaze. The Phoenix Police Department said, "A young child involved was provided lifesaving care by responding officers," as obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. Firefighters were able to extract a man from the flaming car and transported him to a hospital. On the other hand, the two adults involved in the crash also received injuries, but they were not life-threatening.
The police investigation points to one of the vehicles, an SUV carrying the child, as having crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with the other vehicle. The child, who was in a booster seat at the time of the accident, and both drivers, who were reported to have minor injuries, are now recovering. As stated by AZFamily, the crash led to the closure of the intersection for several hours to allow for responders to attend to the victims and to clear the wreckage.
Authorities say neither driver showed signs of impairment. The Phoenix Police Department is still investigating the exact cause of the collision.
