The City of Norman has achieved a high Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule rating. According to the City of Norman, the Planning Department reported 1,243 data points to support the city's building code practices
"On a scale of 1-10, with ‘1’ being the best possible rating, the City of Norman achieved a ‘4’ in the categories of Commercial Buildings, 1-Family Dwellings, and 2-Family Dwellings," said Brenda Wolf, Manager of Operations for Norman’s Planning Department. The Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule rating evaluates a city's building codes and enforcement procedures to assess how effectively they can reduce damage from natural disasters. Norman’s rating surpasses the average for the state of Oklahoma, as reported by the City of Norman.
Norman, Oklahoma, recently achieved a strong Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule rating, which reflects the city’s effective code enforcement and efforts to reduce risks. This can lead to lower insurance premiums and increased safety for residents. Greg Clark, the City of Norman Building Official, stated, “A BCEGS rating reflects a City’s robust code enforcement and commitment to minimizing risks, which can result in reduced insurance premiums and increased safety for residents.” The city's achievement was driven by the efforts of Greg Clark, Brenda Wolf, and their staff, who focused on adopting updated building codes, thorough inspections, and staff training. Clark added, "So we are incredibly proud of this achievement and will continue working to ensure high level protections are in place for those who work and live in Norman."
