The U.S. Coast Guard has ramped up its search for a 32-year-old man who went overboard near Lake Worth Inlet yesterday evening. According to CBS12, the man fell from a 26-foot vessel and was reported missing 17 miles southeast of the inlet. Search operations, led by the Coast Guard’s Miami sector, began at first light this morning amid challenging conditions with reports of rough seas and swells reaching up to 16 feet.
On Wednesday, the Coast Guard's Seventh District released a statement via social media stating that both air and surface assets were deployed in the search operation for the overboard individual. As per WPBF 25, partner agency aircrews are also involved in the rescue efforts with plans including a plane conducting further search efforts off the Stuart area. The type of vessel from which the person may have fallen is still unclear.
Efforts to locate the missing man have been joined by local authorities as well. "The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office was also assisting," as noted by WPBF 25. The Coast Guard continues to spearhead the search and has not yet released additional information about the missing person or circumstances of the incident.
Locals and boaters in the area are being urged to stay vigilant and report any signs of the missing man. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Coast Guard. With sea conditions posing significant risks, the urgency of the situation is palpable as each moment passes. The search effort underlines the unpredictable and often perilous nature of the sea, reminding those on the water of the importance of safety and preparedness.
