On January 31, Deputy Altemus urgently tended to a 31-year-old man who was found unresponsive and not breathing due to a suspected overdose. A social media post from the Collin County Sheriff's Office recounted how the deputy promptly administered Narcan and started CPR, successfully reviving the individual.
The decisive moments unfolded as Deputy Altemus worked to get a pulse back and keep the man alert and awake until additional medical personnel could take over. His efforts were not in vain, as they proved to snatch a life back from the precipice literally.
According to the Collin County Sheriff's Office, "Because of his quick actions and calm under pressure, a life was saved." The sheriff's office took to Facebook to publicly honor Deputy Altemus, expressing pride in having someone of his caliber on their team.
