During the ceremony, the attendees recalled the young boy's life with tears and laughter, highlighting his kindness and dreams that appeared boundless. Nadeen Romain delivered a eulogy touching on Xavier's favorite Bible verse, Psalm 23:6, and spoke of the Bible study group chat Xavier had initiated for his family. According to WESH, Nadeen Romain said, “Though his life ended in pain and injustice, Xavier's story is not defined by tragedy." "It is defined by the joy he brought, the love he gave.”
Xavier's death is connected to a case of severe abuse and neglect in Tavares, where he moved with his mother, Kimberley Mills, and her boyfriend, Andre Walker, in 2022. According to ClickOrlando, Mills and Walker were indicted on several charges, including first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. Mourners assembled to pay their respects, with the ceremony moving to Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield for the graveside service.
