Community dedication took the spotlight in Coral Springs yesterday as the city honored six volunteers for their exceptional community service. Recognized at the City Commission Meeting on April 16, these recipients were awarded the Lynne Johnson Award, a distinction that bears the name of the late, devoted volunteer Lynne Johnson. According to the Coral Springs government's announcement, the award acknowledges individuals who significantly enhance the city through their volunteer efforts.

The 2025 award winners represent a diverse group. Jane Collin, celebrated with the Youth Making a Difference Award, has volunteered for the past three years teaching art to summer campers with the Coral Springs Police Department’s Summer Youth Program. She has notably left a lasting impression on the participants, even ensuring each left with an art portfolio. Al Nigro, winning the Seniors Making a Difference category, brings over two decades of service to the Historical Advisory Committee and has proved to consistently impart his knowledge, even while facing health challenges.

Nailah Hickling and Diane Dixon were recognized in areas crucial to the functionality and cultural vibrance of Coral Springs. Hickling, a high school senior, keen to manage her time and give back, has been assisting the City Clerk’s Office for the past eight months, and Dixon has spent more than a decade ushering at the Center for the Arts after her regular full-time job. Dixon’s commitment is described as unwavering, with those attending performances benefitting from her warm presence.

Curt Tiefenbrun and Ken Kowalski's services were also spotlighted for their environmental and sports contributions, respectively. Tiefenbrun has been an avid member of the Environmental Sustainability Committee, leading significant initiatives like the "Keep Our Trees" movement, while Kowalski's involvement with youth sports and the Special Olympics has been noteworthy for both fostering inclusivity and inspiration among young athletes.
