Last Thursday, the Colma Police Department effected a high-risk felony vehicle stop, resulting in the arrest of Daly City resident Alyssa Zaragoza.
The incident began to unfold at around 5:35 PM, when Colma Officers received a notification from their Flock Safety Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system, alerting them of a vehicle that had been marked for felony evasion by the San Francisco Police Department, according to a social media post by the Colma Police Department. The vehicle managed to elude immediate apprehension as officers scoured the area with diligence.
Around 6:15 PM, about 40 minutes later, the police found the vehicle parked on School Street in Daly City. Inside was the driver and only occupant, Zaragoza, who refused to leave. Officers tried to persuade her to cooperate as the standoff continued.
Officers ordered Zaragoza to step out, but she refused. One officer moved to the passenger side to force entry, prompting her to unlock the doors. However, she resisted as they tried to remove her. After a brief struggle, officers safely took her out and placed her in handcuffs, according to the Colma Police Department.
Zaragoza, 27, now faces charges of resisting and obstructing a peace officer and was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
