DeKalb County Launches Summer Youth Employment Program Offering 350 Internships to Local TeensSource: DeKalb County

The summer job season just got hotter for young residents of DeKalb County with the announcement of the 2025 DeKalb Summer Youth Employment Program (DSYEP). The local government has joined forces with WorkSource DeKalb to offer 350 internship opportunities to youth seeking work experience, bolstering both their resumes and the local economy. Prospective interns will find themselves immersed in fields as diverse as healthcare, education, technology, retail, and government over a one-month period starting June 2.

According to the official announcement, applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 21, and residents of DeKalb County to be eligible for the DSYEP lottery—a selection process designed to ensure a level playing field. Those lucky enough to be selected can expect to work up to 24 hours a week, Monday through Thursday, at a wage of $15 per hour, which stands as a competitive pay rate amongst regional youth programs. The program, which is open for registration from last Thursday through next Sunday, 2025, will also require participants to complete a drug screening and background check.

In the words of DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, "Our youth are the architects of tomorrow, and it’s our responsibility to equip them with the foundation to build bold, bright futures." This investment, as she told a county press release, goes beyond just job offers. It's about instilling a sense of possibility and nurturing the economic growth of the county through its young population.

DeKalb’s youth looking to snag one of these coveted spots can register through the program's website at dekalbcountyga.gov/dsyep. Additional support is available for those with questions or in need of help with the registration process.
