The Unemployment Insurance Agency’s Detroit Local Office, located at Cadillac Place, 3024 W. Grand Blvd., will temporarily close for renovations starting Monday next week. The updates aim to improve security and service efficiency. During the renovation, a temporary office across the lobby will serve clients with scheduled appointments.

According to the Labor and Economic Opportunity website, this closure is part of a statewide upgrade, with the Detroit office being the last of five to be renovated, following Grand Rapids, Lansing, Saginaw, and Sterling Heights. The office is expected to reopen in the fall of this year, featuring a reconfigured public space and enhanced security measures.

In-person service will be available by appointment only, and claimants will receive reminders via text with the temporary office’s address. Virtual and phone appointments will not be affected and can be scheduled online.

Claimants are encouraged to use alternative resources, such as the UIA Claimant Roadmap, online coaching sessions, and tools like the Ask Ava chatbot and Chat with an Agent through the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). For federal workers, resources are available at Michigan.gov/FederalWorkerHelp. Free legal aid for UIA appeals is available through the Advocacy Program. For assistance, claimants can contact customer service at 1-866-500-0017 or visit the UIA website to schedule appointments or access other resources.
