In a charming blend of community outreach and educational involvement, the department recently hosted a unique guest known to schoolchildren everywhere: Flat Stanley. The two-dimensional character took a break from the pages of his eponymous book series to join the Graveyard Patrol Team for a "Night Shift Adventure." According to a post on the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office's Facebook page, Kyle, a student from Mrs. Terwilliger’s class in Edmond, Washington, sent his paper companion to Colorado to get a firsthand look at the life of a law enforcement officer.

During his stay, Flat Stanley actively participated in the patrol team’s activities. He "rode along with our deputies, met our hardworking overnight dispatchers, helped read a few reports, and may have even dispatched a call or two (with supervision, of course!)," the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office social media post revealed.

The department expressed enthusiasm for participating in such educational projects, emphasizing the value of showing children the behind-the-scenes operations of law enforcement.
