Heads up, commuters and pedestrians traversing the downtown area this week—the 300 block of West Michigan Street is getting a temporary makeover courtesy of some much-needed contractor work. Starting bright and early Thursday, April 17, those navigating near the intersection with Fourth Avenue W can expect detours and crane sightings.
Whilst the hustle of daylight hours unfolds, a stretch of Michigan Street will be off-limits to the usual stream of traffic as cranes commandeer the thoroughfare. The disruption is slated to end by the evening rush hour. On the pedestrian front, a sidewalk hopscotch might be in order, as some pathways will be closed while their opposite numbers will welcome the footfall.
For those behind the wheel, a detour map has been thoughtfully provided. The suggested route will loop traffic via Fourth Avenue West, Superior Street, and then Third Avenue West, stitching together a path back to Michigan Street. Plus, for those seeking the Medical Arts Building's parking ramp, a lifeline in the form of temporary two-way traffic along Third Avenue W has been tossed into the mix.
