Tragedy struck early this morning in Dunnellon as a house fire claimed the life of one individual, with two others narrowly escaping the inferno. Marion County Fire Rescue officials confirmed they received a call about the blaze at approximately 12:51 a.m. They arrived swiftly on the scene by 12:55 a.m., as reported by Ocala. Upon arrival at the 20600 block of West McKinney Avenue, firefighters were confronted with a single-story, wood-frame home that was already 75% engulfed in flames.
Despite the quick response time, the structure's rapid consumption by fire proved to be an overpowering adversary. Fire Rescue personnel mounted an "aggressive attack" and initiated a search for the individual believed to be trapped inside, as ClickOrlando reported. Unfortunately, around 1:18 a.m., after the flames were brought under control, the crew discovered a body within the remains of the residence.
The identity of the deceased has not been made public as investigations into the incident are ongoing. The cause of the fire, which has left a community grappling with loss, is currently under examination by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
