In a move enhancing urban connectivity, Dunwoody city officials and collaborators from the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs) convened to inaugurate the first segment of the Ashford Dunwoody Path, a key development in the area's quest for improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. The event represented a tangible outcome of the ongoing partnership and shared financial commitments geared towards enriching local transportation options, as reported by the City of Dunwoody's official site.

The initial phase of the path introduces a two-way raised cycle track, shielded from the hustle of traffic by a substantial landscape buffer. Along with a new, ADA-compliant sidewalk, this route now boasts an upgraded bus shelter, enhanced pedestrian lighting, and landscaping improvements, gleaming as a beacon of progress along Ashford Dunwoody Road. The project path meanders its way in front of Perimeter Mall, stretching from Hammond Drive to Perimeter Center West.

A crucial element of Dunwoody's broad Transportation Plan and Trail Master Plan, the Ashford Dunwoody Path is structured in phases to improve the manageability of funding and execution. Phase 2 is poised to extend the path further northward, reaching from Perimeter Center West to Ashford Center Parkway, and is currently progressing through the right-of-way acquisition stage.

With a construction budget standing at $1.5 million for this phase, the financial load was equally hoisted between the City and PCIDs. In an effort to elevate the design aesthetics, PCIDs took upon itself the full funding of decorative elements such as pavers and street furniture. A portion of the City's investment was drawn from hotel/motel tax revenues, indicating the direct reinvestment of tourism dollars back into the local infrastructure.
