Attention drivers in the Southeast Valley: Starting tomorrow at 11:30 p.m., the eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) on-ramp at Gilbert Road will be closed for approximately 60 days. The closure is part of a larger project to expand and improve the Loop 202 corridor through Chandler and Gilbert, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
Drivers who regularly use the eastbound on-ramp at Gilbert Road will need to adjust their routes during the closure. ADOT recommends using the Cooper or Lindsay roads to access the freeway. The closure is part of ongoing construction, and the westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road is scheduled to reopen by 11 p.m. on April 26, after its reconstruction is completed.
The Loop 202 Improvement Project is a $200 million project spanning 8 miles of freeway from Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to Val Vista Drive. Once completed, the project will include additional lanes and upgraded interchanges aimed at improving the flow of traffic.
The project is partially funded by Proposition 400, a half-cent sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004, and is part of the Regional Transportation Plan. This plan, managed by the Maricopa Association of Governments, aims to improve infrastructure in the Greater Phoenix area, according to the ADOT announcement.
