Travelers heading back to the Valley after Easter celebrations faced a major delay following a fatal crash on Interstate 17. The accident, which occurred near Table Mesa Road north of Phoenix, resulted in the closure of the southbound lanes and tragically claimed at least one life.
Fox 10 Phoenix reported the Arizona Department of Public Safety's confirmation that the crash caused one fatality. To manage the traffic congestion that followed, the Arizona Department of Transportation recommended alternate routes, advising drivers to use State Route 260 or State Route 169 to get around the jam.
Further details on the specifics of the accident have not yet been made public. As of the time of conveyance, Interstate 17's southbound lanes were reopened, but heavy delays were still anticipated to stretch into the evening hours as the backup gradually cleared.
Additional information was scarce, as the incident occurred on a busy holiday weekend. 12 News included a statement from the Arizona Department of Public Safety regarding the rollover's impact, stating, "The crash caused extensive delays near Black Canyon City." Witnesses and those affected by the traffic disruptions were left to navigate the aftermath even after the roadway itself had cleared.
