The iconic Edaville Family Theme Park, nestled in Carver, Massachusetts, is currently auctioning off a selection of its amusement rides and attractions. In a move to facilitate the renovation and introduction of King Richard's Faire at the location, the park has decided to part with a variety of crowd-pleasing items, from a 1964 Allen Herschell Astronaut to about 20 animated dinosaur figures.
The auction kicked off Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the park's address just off Route 58, as reported by Boston 25 News. With deadlines set for removal of items by May 15, prospective buyers are eyeing everything from the classic, Flying Turtles and the vibrant, Crazy Bus, to the family favorites, Tilting Tobey and Rockin Tub. The detailed array of park memorabilia even includes a dismantled 1953 Eli Ferris Wheel and a Tri-level soft play area.
Organizers of the auction, Norton of Michigan, are overseeing the sale of these amusement pieces under the direction of the park's new owners. They have the task to clear the decks and reinvent the space at 5 Pine Street. On the eclectic auction block are pieces like a 1990 Zamperla Flying Turtles, a 2015 Zamperla Sky Tower, and a 2015 Zamperla mini Ferris wheel, among other attractions, according to the listing on NBC Boston.
Edaville has been a beacon of family fun since its inaugural opening in 1947 as Edaville Railroad. Its legacy has spanned generations, drawing in visitors with its historic steam locomotives and themed activities such as Thomas Land and Dino Land. The pandemic clouded Edaville's future, but in October 2022, new operators, including Shervin B. Hawley and Brian Fanslau, took the helm with promises of enhancing the park's traditional appeal. Despite the sale of the property in February, there's talk of preserving the park's legendary railroad for the holiday season's festivities.
The new chapter for Edaville will continue with the hosting of the 44th season of King Richard's Faire beginning August 30. As for those looking for a slice of history or a unique amusement treasure, the opportunity awaits to claim a piece of this storied park's past.
