An El Paso man has been taken into custody, facing charges for the murder of a woman whose body was found discarded across the border in Ciudad Juarez. Jorge Mares Raygoza, 47, is accused of killing 45-year-old Coral Liamas Sifuentes in the United States before transporting her remains to Mexico. The arrest, as KFOX-TV reports, came on March 28 following an investigation by the El Paso Police Department's Crimes Against Persons unit.
The probe into Sifuentes' death was initially a collaborative effort between the FBI and Mexican authorities, who suspected the murder might have taken place in the U.S.. The El Paso Police Department stated that the "preliminary investigation revealed that the body of a woman, later identified as Coral Llamas Sifuentes, 45, was discovered in Juarez," according to KTSM.
While this singular crime has drawn the attention of law enforcement across borders, it occurs against a backdrop of extreme violence marked by drug and human trafficking disputes. In March alone, Juarez suffered 100 homicides, its deadliest month of the year thus far, contributing to approximately 255 homicides within the first three months of 2025, as detailed by the El Paso Times. Juarez has been mired for decades in issues related to femicides and the disappearances of young women.
