El Paso motorists should brace themselves for a week of potential delays as maintenance work and improvements will be affecting major thoroughfares across the district. Starting Monday, April 21, alternating lane closures will impact Artcraft east and westbound between the Stateline and Doniphan from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to TxDOT. The planned work includes hauling of electrical material to the construction site, which is part of a broader effort to upgrade infrastructure in the rapidly growing region.
In addition to the Artcraft work, lane closures on US-54 north and southbound, as well as State Line Road east and westbound, will commence on Monday, April 20, with a continuous closure of the US-54 median at the State Line Road intersection. The Texas Department of Transportation advises motorists to take detours through Dyer, Stan Roberts, and McCombs. This is all part of the demolition and preparation for new shoulders and median islands, steps necessary to not just enhance the thoroughfare but to ensure it sustains the burdens of tomorrow's traffic.
Further modifications in traffic patterns will occur as crews work on traffic signal improvements. From April 21 to April 25, Dyer (BU-54) will see right lane closures at multiple intersections, including Loop 375 and Diana. Furthermore, Mesa (SH-20) will have its right lane closed at Doniphan intersection on April 26 from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and then again from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as per TxDOT.
Residents on the east side can also expect to see crews installing new traffic signals at various key intersections, like Edgemere, John Hayes, and Zaragoza, between April 28 and May 3. During these installations, there will be alternate lane and shoulder closures for both north and southbound as well as east and westbound traffic in these areas. The work, carried out between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., aims to improve traffic flow and safety across these busy intersections.
Paisano Bridge is also undergoing significant changes, with westbound closures between Executive and Doniphan, and eastbound closures from Doniphan to Executive extending until September 16. Crews will be focusing on demolition and bridge work, part of a comprehensive plan for improved transit along this essential commercial corridor.
