An unsettling incident unfolded at the Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights this past Wednesday when a 74-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint. Police say Darryl A. Saddler, 62, is the man accused of committing the act, which commenced in the parking garage of the casino. According to the St. Charles Police Department, he forced the victim to drive to an ATM and withdraw money before fleeing with it and her vehicle, as reported by KSDK.
The series of events leading up to the arrest were sparked around 5 p.m., when the woman, under threat, was directed to a QuikTrip on Zumbehl Road to obtain cash for Saddler. FOX2NOW remarks that the victim was told her life was in danger. After the money was seized, the suspect left the scene in the victim's car, which was later discovered less than two miles away, abandoned.
As identified by officials, and in custody shortly after, Saddler faces a litany of serious charges. The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged him with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and stealing a motor vehicle. Additionally, according to the Maryland Heights Police Department's statements obtained by KSDK, he has a substantial criminal history with five previous felony charges.
Saddler's criminal history was further compounded by these recent charges. In a statement disclosed by First Alert 4, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has also charged him with vehicle hijacking – a class A felony, two counts of class U felony armed criminal action, and class B felony first-degree kidnapping. The court has set his bond at $100,000, which must be paid in cash should he seek release.
