Fort Lauderdale's morning routine took an unexpected turn today as emergency services responded to a chemical spill on Marina Mile, also known as 24th near State Road 84 and Southwest 4th Avenue, causing significant traffic disruptions. WSVN reported that Fire Rescue crews were at the scene investigating after a truck leaked an unknown, highly slippery substance prompting authorities to shut down the road in both eastbound and westbound directions.
The exact nature of the chemical remains uncertain at this time and specialists have arrived to ascertain its identity and potential hazards, according to officials; however, the slickness of the chemical created a hazardous situation necessitating the area's closure, the immediate use of Speedy Dry by the emergency teams to absorb the spill is helping to mitigate further risk and prepare the roads for reopening.
Hazmat teams were seen arriving at the location to conduct a thorough analysis as anxiously awaited information trickles in about the spilled substance. A traffic alert issued earlier by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue advised motorists, especially those en route to the beach or airport, to find alternate pathways to navigate around the substantial traffic snarl caused by the incident.
