Cape Cod residents woke up to a dangerous discovery early this morning as nearly 500 nails were found scattered across several roads and driveways, according to the Falmouth Police Department. The pointed hazards were initially spotted by Officer Chapman at around 2 a.m. on John Parker Road. The spread of nails extended to Clark Street, Old Barnstable Road, and Prince Henry Drive, with some found maliciously placed under vehicle tires in driveways. In what seems to be a deliberate act of vandalism, the police, assisted by the Department of Public Works, collected a total of 478 nails from the sites.
The social media post by the Falmouth Police Department detailed the incident, stating, "Officers checked the area on foot and located more nails on Clark Street, Old Barnstable Road, and Prince Henry Drive." The police are seeking assistance from the public, urging anyone with information or camera footage to come forward and contact Officer Chapman. While patrolling John Parker Road, Officer Chapman—the nails lining the roadway were noticed—prompting a wider investigation.
The act raises concerns among the community members for the safety of their vehicles and pedestrians.
