A family gathering in Walnut Park West was shattered by gun violence last night when a 66-year-old man was shot by a known suspect. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported that the incident took place in the 5600 block of Goodfellow shortly before 11:15 p.m. yesterday.
The victim, who suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen, was rushed to the hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. A preliminary investigation indicated that the incident occurred after the man became intoxicated and argumentative, leading to a scuffle with his niece. During the altercation, an 18-year-old male, identified as the man's nephew, discharged a firearm at him and fled the scene.
District 6 is actively investigating the shooting, and authorities are calling on the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect involved. "Anyone with a tip about this incident who wants to remain anonymous and is interested in a possible cash reward for their tip should contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477)," informed the SLMPD. It's important to note that only tips submitted to CrimeStoppers that result in an arrest are eligible for rewards.
