
Early Sunday morning, a fatal collision on Chicago's Dan Ryan Expressway resulted in significant traffic disruptions and the closure of all southbound lanes. The accident, which involved three vehicles, occurred on Interstate 94 at 87th Street around 3 a.m., as reported by ABC7 Chicago. Illinois State Police confirmed that at least one individual was killed in the incident. Although the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash remains unclear, the aftermath saw a semi truck visible within the cordoned lanes, and the interruption to traffic flow extended for hours.
Authorities, including Illinois State Police troopers, were quick to respond to the crash site. Their response was recorded to have begun at approximately 3:16 a.m., based on a statement by FOX 32 Chicago. Subsequently, southbound traffic was swiftly diverted off the expressway as the investigation unfolded.
The closure of the interstate created a considerable backlog of vehicles, with drivers being rerouted off I-94 to circumvent the crash site. After meticulous investigation and cleanup efforts, the lanes were reopened six hours after the initial incident. FOX 32 Chicago noted that normal traffic resumed a little after 9 a.m.
