A tragic incident unfolded on the tracks of Cohasset when a person was fatally struck by a train, the Cohasset Police Department reported via a social media post. The accident occurred yesterday around 9:35 a.m. between Sohier Street crossing and the Rocky Lane bridge, as a Boston-bound train from Scituate made its deadly contact.
The authorities were promptly alerted by the MBTA commuter rail operations center, after which Cohasset police and fire units rushed to the scene in hopes of saving the victim's life while the Greenbush Commuter Line was paused for an extended period for the grim task of investigation and scene clearance, the efforts were ultimately in vain as they were unable to revive the individual. Service disruptions continued for about four hours as teams from Cohasset, Transit, and State Police—including Norfolk District Attorney's office—carried out their work.
Details surrounding the person's identity have been withheld with respect for their family, pending proper notification of next of kin. The MBTA and the involved law enforcement agencies have not yet provided further information on why the individual was on the tracks or the specific circumstances that led to this unfortunate event.
Commuters experienced significant delays as a result of the line's closure, the investigation, and the subsequent retrieval of the victim had traffic rerouted and travelers seeking alternative modes of transit while the Greenbush Line was shut down.
