Salt Lake City road warriors, brace yourselves, the final year of the Funding Our Future street projects is upon us, set to commence this April. The initiative, which was a direct response to the voter mandate from 2018's $87 million bond approval, is now entering its last stages. Projects gearing up include major artery reconstructions like 1300 East, a stretch on 2100 South, as well as improvements on numerous local streets, aiming to tackle over a fifth of the city's most degraded pavements.
As reported by Salt Lake City, the prominent routes across the city are set for a facelift, touching points from Elgin Avenue to Redwood Road, and let's not forget the final phases of the 2100 South, moving from 700 East to 1300 East, and also impacting 300 North to 1000 West. "We've made a lot of progress, and we're happy to let Salt Lake City travelers know that major impacts are winding down," Salt Lake City Engineer Mark Stephens said, as obtained by Salt Lake City, finding solace in the infrastructure renovation wrapping up this year.
Championing more than just an asphalt makeover, the capital city has integrated close to 20 miles of enhanced bike and pedestrian pathways, and safety upgrades for all modes of travel have been hammered into these street projects; this includes new pedestrian crossings, upgraded drainage, alongside shiny new underground utility lines such as sewer and water. It's a multi-modal street party, and the entire Salt Lake City community is on the guest list.
Residents curious about the construction chaos soon to unfold should mark their calendars for the "Meet the Contractor" events dedicated to the 1300 East and 600 North projects, taking place in early April. Specifically, the 1300 East project powwow is slated for April 10, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Highland High School, an opportunity for locals to dive deep into the impending schedules and brace for the impacts. For those who seek details about the individual projects can be pinpointed on the city's informative campaign page, ever so conveniently available with a click.
