Five individuals have been detained following a scuffle in downtown Gilroy that left three people seriously hurt. The incident unfolded near Monterey and Sixth streets on Monday, according to the Gilroy Police Department.
In the ensuing chaos, which took place around midnight, responding officers found three adults bearing the marks of violence, their injuries grave but not enough to threaten a breath more. The apparent perpetrators, a group of five men, did not get far before the police detained them. All residents of Gilroy, the suspects' ages range from 19 to 29. They are Mathew Garcia Flores, Michael Thomas Haro, Josiah Xavier Lujan, Adrian Anthony Navarrette, and Jose Angel Santos III.
Allegedly, the assault turned into robbery as the suspects, tied to a local gang, snatched jewelry and cash from the victims. These items were later recovered.
Currently, the accused are confined to the Santa Clara County Jail. Detective Ludden of the Anti-Crime Team leads the probe into the night's events.
