Residents of Middletown and surrounding areas in Butler County are urged to stay vigilant. The Flood Warning along the Great Miami River has been extended until tomorrow afternoon. This extension comes as minor flooding continues, with forecasts predicting the same conditions in the near term.
The Butler County Sheriff's Office issued a social media warning alerting communities to the increased risk. The Flood Warning pertains specifically to the stretch of the Great Miami River near Middletown. According to the post, the river had reached a stage of 13.8 feet as of early Monday morning. With the flood stage set at 12 feet, the river is expected to "fall below flood stage late Tuesday morning and continue falling, remaining below flood stage," remaining below the critical mark. The Sheriff's Office's post details the situation and its impacts on the community.
Present impacts of the flooding have seen waters encroaching on properties along Route 73 from the east side of the river to Excello. The flood has inundated several homes and businesses. Remarkably, the City of Middletown has withstood the rising tides, with its flood walls and levees providing robust defense to a stage of 24 feet. The Sheriff's office warns that waters arriving at 14 feet have started to affect nearby properties.
Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and working to assist where necessary. They recommend residents in the affected areas exercise caution and follow official advisories. More information can be expected to be made available as the situation evolves, but for now, citizens are urged to stay safely away from the riverbanks and to stay updated through trusted sources.
