Former NFL player Roosevelt Nix is plunging into the world of healthy eating with his first 'Playa Bowls' location in Phoenix, bringing the New Jersey-based brand's mantra of sustainable living and superfruit-laden offerings to the city. The grand opening at 4502 East Thomas Road, as reported by ABC15, is slated for Saturday, complete with a live DJ, giveaways, and complimentary bowls for early birds. Nix shared his enthusiasm, saying, "It’s just been a wonderful experience to be done with football and get into a company as passionate about their brand as I am. It really includes everything that I'm about, lifestyle, healthy foods, changing your body."
Rekindling his competitive spirit in the business arena, the former Pittsburgh Steelers player is looking to tackle the local market by promising a fully customizable experience, including açaí, pitaya, coconut bowls, and plenty of healthy substitutes. "We got tons of different combinations and substitutions," Nix said, revealing the new store's potential as a customizable haven for health-conscious consumers. This establishment is joining other Playa Bowls venues in Arizona, as per ABC15 coverage.
Meanwhile, the 'Playa Bowls' expansion playbook includes not just Phoenix, but also nationwide growth. Pro Bowl veteran Nix-Jones, dubbed Rosie, is pioneering this expansion with the Arcadia store in the works at 4528 E. Thomas Rd., in what used to be an Alex Optical. The superfruit chain recently celebrated its 300th store opening in Atlanta's Buckhead, according to a What Now Phoenix article, underscoring a broader ambition to eclipse the healthy fast-casual market with an additional 90-plus shops by year's end and more than 350 in the development pipeline.
Playa Bowls founder and CMO Abby Taylor remarked on the explosive growth, stating, "Playa Bowls began with a pure vision, a blender, and a love for surfing," reflecting on the brand's inception. Guests are encouraged to dive into the vast sea of options, with superfruits like açaí, pitaya, and kale, and further customize bowls to suit dietary inclinations such as vegan, gluten-free, Whole30, Keto, and Paleo.
