According to the post, Officer Gresham first noticed the individual, who had previously shot at pedestrians and vehicles, and later, at Officer Gresham himself. The assailant fled the scene but was encountered again by Officer Gresham days later, crouched by a telephone pole. Upon being illuminated by a flashlight, the man opened fire, striking Officer Gresham three times and leading to his death at the scene. He was 42 years old at the time of the incident.
