The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called upon to thoroughly examine the circumstances leading to the in-custody death of 39-year-old Edward Bailey in Atlanta, Georgia. According to the GBI's press release, Bailey died following a domestic dispute that prompted a 911 call and subsequent police engagement.
Reports indicate that last Friday, after Atlanta Police Department answered the 911 distress signal at approximately 5:00 p.m., Bailey fled his home on William Nye Drive, sparking a chase which ended when police managed to quickly take him under custody. Officers noted a bleeding injury on Bailey's leg and endeavored to immediately give medical assistance before transporting him to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The findings of the autopsy carried out by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office reveal that Bailey's injury was a penetrating wound to the right thigh, and his death was an accident.
As part of their investigation, the Atlanta Police Department has joined the GBI in their pursuit to disclose the complete narrative surrounding Bailey's demise. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office made this information public on Tuesday, as stated in the autopsy report available on the Fulton County website, providing crucial details pertaining to the case.
While the probe into Bailey's death is active, many questions remain unanswered. To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the events, the GBI is to carefully carry out an independent investigation. Upon its conclusion, they will present their findings to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for a thorough review.
