The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken the helm in probing an officer-involved shooting that unfolded in Monroe County, as detailed in a report by the GBI. The incident, which occurred yesterday, saw one John Monroe Barnes taking a bullet while no law enforcement personnel sustained injuries during the chaos.
Acting on the behest of Monroe County Sheriff's Office, GBI agents descended upon the scene near CVS at the nexus of Tift College Drive and Patrol Road in Forsyth, GA. Deputies were hot on the heels of 34-year-old Barnes of Ellenwood, GA, who was wanted on formidable charges of making terroristic threats. Barnes opened fire upon the deputies' arrival leading to an exchange of gunfire during which he incurred injuries, consequently he was ferried to a local institution for medical care, according to the GBI's official statement.
The ongoing investigation by GBI aims to be scrupulous and non-partisan, committing to thoroughly scrutinize the nuances of the incident before passing the torch to the Towaliga Judicial Circuit District Attorney's office for a rigorous review. As Barnes recuperates, the doors remain open for additional legal repercussions to be levied against him contingent on the findings of the investigation.
