The Gilroy Police Department has reported the arrest of two local men following a string of investigative efforts into a gang-motivated attack dating back to December 2023. Suspects George Plaza, 49, and Paul Plaza, 51, were taken into custody last Friday, stemming from an incident that involved three victims who were violently assaulted in downtown Gilroy, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

Investigations into the assaults revealed a connection meant to intimidate or retaliate against witnesses of a 2001 gang-related homicide. The response incorporated a coordinated effort from multiple agencies to serve arrest and search warrants at suspects' residences. During the arrests, officials also located and seized stolen and illegal firearms as well as ammunition.

The comprehensive operation saw collaboration from various specialized teams, including the Gilroy/Morgan Hill SWAT Team, Santa Clara Police Department Special Response Team (SRT), and additional support from the Campbell Police Department SWAT and K-9 Teams. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office issued the felony warrants, resulting in the arrest of the two Gilroy residents.
